Widely regarded as one of the finest film composers of his era, Henry Mancini began his musical career as a pianist and arranger for Glenn Miller before moving on to composition. He joined Universal Pictures in 1952, working in the music department and helping score some 100 films over the next six years.
His finest work, however, came when he left to become a freelance composer, penning the score and themes for such classics as The Pink Panther, Breakfast At Tiffany's and the television series Peter Gunn. He was also a regular performer, fulfilling some 50 dates a year and would go on to record 90 albums in a variety of musical styles.
