Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw were widely regarded as the finest exponents of the clarinet, with Benny in particular practising virtually every day of his 77 years and he even practised on the day he died.
Artie Shaw was no less devoted to the instrument, even though he would have the occasional sabbatical from playing, citing his pursuit of perfection as the reason.
